Deftones has quietly been doing the job on a new album throughout 2023, which they are aiming to release sometime ideally in spring or summer time 2024. The information arrives from Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter in an interview with the Christian flat earth YouTube channel Gnostic Academy at first posted this July, which of course we do not endorse in any way.
“In the final few months, genuinely two or three months, we… nicely probably a minor for a longer time now, truly,” said Carpenter as transcribed by Metallic Injection. “February is when we begun. We setting up to get the job done on new materials for a new file.
He ongoing: “It’s going excellent. It is a very little gradual at first, but it generally is. Dragging our toes ain’t absolutely nothing new. But we’ve obtained the stuff up and going now, and yeah. We are on a excellent small momentum at the instant and we hope to have it all accomplished and out by following spring or summer. I necessarily mean, you can find no formal day nevertheless but which is our aim.”
Carpenter afterwards exposed that Deftones is when yet again doing the job with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Hurry, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, and so forth.), who they’d formerly labored with on both of those Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan.
“Everything stems from us just jamming out some concepts, messing about. Someone comes up with some thing that perhaps anyone else or everybody else likes, and then we aim in on that for a small bit,” explained Carpenter of Raskulinecz.
“That is what Nick‘s terrific at performing, also. He is excellent at… nicely we could just sit and jam aimlessly and plow via idea just after idea without having even stopping to understand ’em. He’s great at expressing ‘that concept is really great. Let’s try out that. Let us try to get the job done on that for a minute, and then that other thought might be seriously cool with that one particular. Let’s try out putting them together’ and stuff like that. So that’s what is actually wonderful about him. He’s like a an unofficial band member at that level. He’s fantastic at providing us direction exactly where we don’t usually do that properly on our have.”
The new Deftones album will be their very first without having bassist Sergio Vega, who played on the band’s preceding 4 albums and stop in 2021. Fred Sablan has been filling in with Deftones live, but the band has never announced an formal substitution for Vega.
