What better way to start off the holiday season than with a clumsy whodunit?
Placed in the 1920’s, the Sopris Theatre production is a play within a play, featuring a comedic and chaotic opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” where things quickly go from bad to disastrous.
“The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields will be performed by the Sopris Theatre Company at Colorado Mountain College-Spring Valley.
The whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show — an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead and actors who trip over everything, including their lines, according to a news release by the company.
Combining Monty Python comedy with an element of Sherlock Holmes, the Olivier Award-winning comedy follows accident-prone thespians as they stumble their way to curtain call.
The play comes from the British theatrical company Mischief and is locally directed by Brad Moore. Cast members include Joshua Adamson, Michael Banks, Delven Bourne, JD Edmonds, Bostyn Elswick, Scott Elmore, Wyatt Tulk and Julia Whalen.
The play runs just over an hour with no intermission, and has haze/fog effects and simulated gunshots. Post-show conversations with the cast will be held on Nov. 20, 26 and Dec. 2.
“The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong” will also be performed live at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen on Jan. 27 and 28, 2023, at 7 p.m.

“Daymaker” is the title of this year’s Warren Miller Entertainment Film benefit for the Sunlight Ski Team.
From British Columbia’s Monashees to Greece’s Olympus Range to Alaska and even some grass skiing. Proceeds benefit the Sunlight Winter Sports Club, Sunlight’s nonprofit kids race team. The evening will start with a special local short film with proceeds from the evening going to the Sunlight Ski Team.
